Party like it’s 1925 and celebrate Dorothy Parker Gin at the Shanty

North Brooklyn, you are cordially invited to a birthday week celebration like no other for literary icon Dorothy Parker.

Today August 17 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., New York Distilling SocietyParker’s birthday party honoring Parker is held at their cocktail bar, The Shanty (79 Richardson St). Williamsburg’s own craft spirits distillery has been distilling Dorothy Parker Gin for almost eleven years (around the same time they open too).

Some come in your best Prohibition-style outfit and get a free souvenir bottle of Dorothy Parker Gin. There will be a martini menu curated by Shanty Bar Manager Marissa Mazzotta using Dorothy Parker New York Gin and Dorothy Parker Rose Petal Gin from the New York Distilling Company.

As you sample these select martinis, you can take a guided tour of the operation led by Hannah Toale, Production Manager of New York Distilling. The free tour will focus on gin distillation and its historical connection to urban distillation with a taste sample.

To add to the festivities, there will be a full oyster bar in partnership with One Billion Oyster Project (who’s also on deck tomorrow for a special dinner at Strangeways – read more about them here).

The New York Distilling Company will donate a portion of the evening’s proceeds to the organization. Enjoy an interesting pairing like no other; an oyster makes a martini better, especially the free ones.

There are others events throughout the week to honor Dorothy Parker, so check them out year round Parkerfestas it is called, and honoring a beloved satirical legend.
