A live MMA show is coming to the Melbourne Auditorium on March 19.

The show featuring a mix of MMA and kickboxing is hosted by Muhammad DeReese, a Titusville High School graduate and state wrestling champion.

DeReese said his motivation for putting on this show was to allow fighters to experience what it’s like to compete in a showcase.

“It will be everything they would get as a pro, just on a smaller stage,” he said. “I have walked this path and I want to help anyone who wants to experience the process.”

DeReese began his amateur fighting career in 2012 and was undefeated as an amateur. As a pro, he had a 9-5 record.

In addition to helping local fighters, DeReese has helped support high schools on the Space Coast.

In the past, he helped raise money for the wrestling program at Cocoa High School and he is also a wrestling coach at Astronaut High School.

There will be an official weigh-in on March 18 at 5 p.m. at the County Line Saloon. Doors to the auditorium will open at 6 p.m. and the show will start at 7 p.m.

DeReese looks forward to the fights and brings more exposure to MMA and kickboxing to Brevard.

“It’s always been my love to help people with what I love to do,” he said.
