Madison County Paper Shredding Event Coming This Spring

LENOX – The Madison County Solid Waste Department is partnering with Proshred to host a free residential document shredding event at Buyea Road Residential Station this spring.

Due to truck capacity limitations, the Department of Solid Waste requires residents to register prior to attending the event. Madison County residents can register online at www.MadisonCountyRecycles.ny.gov. Places are limited and appointments will be on a first-come, first-served basis:

The shredding event will take place on Saturday, May 14 from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at 6666 Buyea Road, Canastota.

Residents may bring a maximum of four filing boxes of personal and confidential documents to be shredded. The material should be loose in boxes or paper bags and easily accessible at the rear of the vehicle. Residents must remain in their vehicle at all times. Empty boxes will be returned to the vehicle; please do not put items in plastic bags.

Medical documents, banking information, tax records and other documents containing account numbers or private details are ideal for filing. Do not bring magazines, junk mail, phone books or photographs. Professional waste will not be accepted.

“Many of our residents use our shredding events as a safe and secure way to get rid of their confidential documents. We are excited to be hosting another event this spring,” said Madison County Recycling Coordinator Kristin Welch “The collected material is shredded on site and will be recycled into other paper products. Residents will be able to protect their personal information and, at the same time, help us rethink waste here in Madison County.”

In addition to shredding events, the Solid Waste Department is working with LOJO Technology to organize e-waste drop-offs on Saturdays. Residents looking to recycle electronics such as computers and televisions can bring their materials to LOJO Technology (634 Birchwood Drive, Oneida) year-round Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. or the following Saturdays, 2022 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.: April 23, July 16 and October 1. Professional waste will not be accepted. Madison County residents only.
