Best PC Board Games for the Holidays

The PC hosts thousands upon thousands of games on Steam alone, so finding the right party games for the holidays can be tricky. Luckily, we’ve rounded up five great titles to entertain your family and friends.

Jackbox party packs

The party is in their name, so it’s a no-brainer, but Jackbox Party Packs offer an incredible variety of games to choose from. It takes the standard tropes of trivia games and other genres of the tabletop genre and flips them on their head. For example, You Don’t Know Jack and Trivia Murder Party pose unorthodox questions that will test the farthest reaches of your brain in quirky game shows. Meanwhile, Quiplash has you do the most ridiculous response to a prompt the game gives you, resulting in a lot of hilarity. The best thing about this series is that the games are completely controlled by your phones, the most widely accessible device on the planet. It has been a hit for many family gatherings, so you should give them a try. We’ve ranked them all, so you know which one to choose first.

Deadly League Blaze

Do you want strong sensations and emotions during your evening? Put on Lethal League Blaze. It’s a platformer and dodgeball hybrid that lets you propel a dodgeball back and forth until only one survives. And with each consecutive shot, the action accelerates. Your reaction time must be precise because the ball can reach dizzying speeds. Audiences will be perplexed as they watch two skilled players of the game come and go like a big tennis volley between Maria Sharapova and Serena Williams. Add the stunning graphic novel art style and a punchy soundtrack, and Lethal League Blaze will be a surefire hit for a party with gamers. Really, there’s no such thing as a funky beat.

Baton Party

Would you like to be able to play Mario Party on PC? Well, the only way to do it legally is to play Pummel Party, but be warned, this interpretation holds a lot of violence in store. It features a fun set of mini-games to play with four local friends and up to eight online players that will leave you hating your loved ones in the end (in the best way). Like traditional Mario Party games, there’s also a board in place. The game is accessible to players and non-players alike, as luck plays an important role in these mini-games. Additionally, you can expect a lot of variety in the game, which means your party will need to stay alert.

Samurai Gunn 2

Let’s dive into the fighting game genre with Samurai Gunn 2. As one of our favorite fighting games of 2021, Samurai Gunn 2 offers fast-paced action and a robust platform that will get your adrenaline pumping. Like the Bushido Blade series, there’s only one hit in Samurai Gunn 2, leaving you hanging in the air as you dodge, jump, shoot, and slash your way to victory. It’s exciting because every win comes by the skin of your teeth. It’s a bit more of a “player game”, but we highly recommend it if you have some buddies around for the holidays.

Ultimate Horse Chicken

Funnier than most stand-up comedians on a Friday night, Ultimate Chicken Horse will leave you with stitches by the time you’re done. In this comedy platformer, the four players leave traps and try to reach the end of the level. By turns it gets more hectic as your characters die in gruesome, yet comical ways. The catch is that your traps can prevent you from succeeding and will sometimes need your best platforming skills to propel you all the way. The situations this game puts you in make you laugh. For example, as shown in the image above, you can stick a rotating saw with honey on a moving conveyor belt while a hockey puck is heading towards the players. It’s ridiculous, wacky and hugely entertaining for you and your guests.
