Attendees enjoyed a Valentine’s Day party at the Lois E. Harrill Senior Center | mountain time

The Lois E. Harrill Senior Center held a Valentine’s Day party on Monday, February 14, and the seniors were happy to finally be able to partake in the annual tradition that has been missed for the past two years.

Seniors enjoyed cupcakes donated by Food Lion and other snacks and treats, as well as games like quizzes and BINGO.

The King and Queen were announced to the delight of the crowd. The King and Queen were Mr. and Mrs. Mason and Rita Franklin. They received flowers and a gift certificate from Mike’s Inland Seafood Restaurant. The king and queen were elected by the participating seniors at the centre.

The revelers also filled in on Valentine’s Day for their reps to let them know how much we appreciate the funding from the Home and Community Care Block grant that partially funds the senior center. They will send similar thank you cards to local representatives next month.

Other prizes offered were a gift certificate from Daniel Boone Inn, which was awarded to the winner of a game, and all participants received treat bags from Appalachian Brain Estates, tote bags with treats from the Regional Agency on Aging and cups with awards from Daymark Recovery Services. These local donors made seniors feel appreciated and brought more excitement to the event.

Lois E. Harrill Senior Center is open to anyone age 60 or older who is enrolled and offers many programs, classes, and activities. Additionally, the senior center provides a place for socializing, games, exercise, billiards, internet and computer access, and education.
