Amazean Jungle Thailand by UTMB is the newest Thai event of the UTMB World Series 2023

While the first edition of the UTMB World Series is in full swing this year with 25 events scheduled in 2022 and thousands of runners registered around the world, the series is already looking towards 2023.

Continuing the expansion of the global trail running circuit, the series organizing team at UTMB and IRONMAN have confirmed… “The first of many new events announced for next year, Amazean Jungle Thailand by UTMB will offer runners an adventure through the unexplored jungle of Betong in southern Thailand.”

The new event will join the UTMB World Series in 2023. It will become the second event in the country alongside Doi Inthanon Thailand by UTMB, providing runners in Asia Pacific with more opportunities to experience the UTMB and collect Running Stones to access the UTMB Mont-Blanc. and the UTMB World Series finals.

The event will take place in Betong – considered a unique destination for a trail race, deep in the jungle of southern Thailand, near the Malaysian border. There are three race distances: 100 km, 50 km and 25 km.

Runners in the 100km race will experience a route that takes them under lush forest and through the hidden tunnel system of Piyamit, built by the now defunct Malaysian Communist Party in 1979 to hide from the airstrikes and stockpiling supplies. The hot springs and Intasorn waterfall will also be the highlights of the longest running distance.

Following a test event in early May, UTMB Group President Catherine Poletti said Amazean Jungle Thailand by UTMB met all the criteria to become a UTMB World Series event. “At the UTMB World Series, our global events are the best trail running events on the planet – but more than that, they must be able to showcase the local culture and environment and take place in an iconic destination to attract runners and allow them to share the adventure with their families and friends.

Poletti continued: “The test event at the beginning of the month proved to be exceptional. After that, we have no doubt that Amazean Jungle Thailand by UTMB offers something truly unique in trail and tourism, and above all has the best standards of organization, excellent courses that showcase the culture and the local environment, and are safe, fair and organized in a sustainable way. .

“I would like to thank the Sports Authority of Thailand and the Southern Border Provinces Administrative Center (SBPAC) for their commitment to making Betong a destination for running athletes around the world. We are very proud to support their vision to use sport to boost inbound tourism to the region and promote it on the world stage as a tourist destination.

Amazean Jungle Thailand by UTMB will be organized by the same team behind Doi Inthanon Thailand by UTMB, an event around the highest mountain in the country that… “takes runners to the rooftops of Thailand”.

In three editions, the event has earned its place as the Major of the UTMB Asia-Pacific World Series in 2022.

Positioned to provide additional appeal to international runners, the UTMB World Series Majors offer all participants additional chances of qualifying for the UTMB World Series Finals at UTMB Mont-Blanc.

The top 10 male and female runners get automatic access to the UTMB World Series Finals, and all race finishers receive double the number of “Running Stones” compared to other World Series events, which are used as entries into the finals lottery.

Registration for Doi Inthanon Thailand by UTMB will officially open on June 8.

Amazean Jungle Trail by UTMB is the first new event to be announced for 2023, with other new events in the Middle East, Africa, Europe and South America also planned.
