18 best party games for adults, kids and the whole family

No celebration is complete without your choice of party games for adults and kids. But who wants to play the same games every year?! We hate to tell you this but, yes, even some traditions get boring! So if you’re looking to change it up, adding one or two of the games from this list to your collection should do the trick.

At the same time, depending on the guest list, you might want to keep NSFW board games in the closet (we’ll leave that to your discretion). Whether you need Christmas party games, New Year’s icebreakers, or just something to save Saint Patrick’s Day, we’ve got your party covered.

The best board games for adults

1) Charty evening

Alright nerds, listen up. Charty Party takes your love of data visualization and charting to a whole new level with this high-speed board game.

This is how it works:

The judge chooses a card and the competition submits the best of their hand to label the Y-axis, giving everyone an answer to the question “what is this chart about?”

But, sometimes the card chosen by the judge will say “Extra Special Bonus Round!” which means players have to create labels for the X and Y axes.

Then the judge chooses the winner, the winner keeps the card, the person left to the judge becomes the new judge, and so on. The person with the most cards at the end of the game wins!

Price: $24.99 (usually $29.99)

2) Reverse Charades

Charades is the classic party game. But why put one person on the spot when your whole family can play something, leaving only one person to guess the answer?

TBH, this is how charades should really be played.

Price: $69.99

3) Telestrations after dark

Take charades and smash them with the phone game, and boom, you have Telestrations. It’s a guessing game about what the other person was trying to say, not saying anything at all.

Instead, players have to draw whatever is printed on their cards and everyone has to guess.

Price: $23.49 (usually $29.99)

4) Joke Risk

Do you think you are funny? Well, this comic book-style card game will (un)prove that. Using prompts and fillable cards, players create their own original comics in the style of the popular webcomic Cyanide & Happiness.

Plus, there are tons of expansion packs to add to make the gameplay even more ridiculous – our two favorites are the very NSFW expansion packs Stroking Hazard and Toking Hazard.

Price: $25

5) Drunk, stoned or stupid

There aren’t many Christmas games for adults, but partying is a holiday tradition. Now combine this activity with a great board game.

Drunk, Stoned or Stupid, it’s totally NSFW, but also totally fun for a party night. Players vote for which player is most likely to do a given topic while drunk or stoned or just because they’re stupid.

Learn about your friends and laugh along the way. Here’s a disclaimer for you: If your feelings are easily hurt (which is totally normal, it’s okay to be sensitive!), this game is NOT for you.

Price: $18

6) Dirty dough

Players decide whether to play alone or as a team and must then choose a card from one of the following categories: Sexy, Kinky, or Disgusting.

Once a card has been chosen, it’s up to the player to craft the clue by hand in less than 60 seconds using only the dough and tools provided – no clues, cheats!

Then it’s up to everyone else to guess the clue and whoever gets it wins the card. Sounds a little too easy, right? Well, wait, there’s more.

Players will also face Gross Challenge tiles that increase the difficulty level of the game by adding obstacles to the sculptor’s goal, such as only being able to sculpt with one hand or using your friend as a dummy instead of the dough.

Our favorite game was challenging someone on the other team to a Dough Down Throwdown where you both carve the same dirty clue. The first team to guess correctly wins the round!

This silly and goofy creative extravaganza brings out everyone’s gaffe.

Price: $18.35

7) What are you memes?

This adult board game plays the same way as Cards Against Humanity, except memes are involved.

So things are bound to spiral out of control, leaving you with a stomach full of stitches. But it’s all in the name of fun!

There’s even a stoner expansion pack for those of you looking to really turn up the heat. Just know that this is one of the most offensive games out there.

If Card Against Humanity is too tame, try What Do You Meme?

Price: $29.99

8) Go fishing yourself

You may have played Go Fish as a kid, now you’ve grown up and so has Go Fish.

Go Fish Yourself is similar to Go Fish, except the creators have really stepped up the incentive to sabotage other players.

Sounds like the perfect party game for the holidays, huh?

As you create pairs, players will get really creative as they complete the ridiculous set of rules printed on each card. If you can’t force yourself to play the pair, you’re out.

Price: $10.00

9) HR. The game

This pocket party game is a giant puzzle game, so you’ll get smarter the more you play it.

Players turn over the cards and shout out what they see. But depending on the card, you either need to show its background color, what is depicted, or any word (expletive) printed on it. Mess up and you collect more cards.

The first person to get rid of all their cards wins. TL; DR: Don’t freak out.

Price: $16.95

10) Choose your poison

In this intense game of “Would You Rather…”, a judge creates a gruesome scenario by combining cards.

Each player is allowed to ask questions about the cards so the judge can give them clues as to what is what.

Then an unlucky player anonymously chooses their poison in the hope that everyone agrees with them.

Price: $29.99

11) CoolCats and AssHats

How well do you know your friends? This game will tell you.

If you guess their tastes, you are a cool cat and get points and stuff. But if you’re wrong, you’re an asshole and everyone laughs at you.

This game is meant to be offensive and inappropriate, so if that’s not your style, move on!

Price on Amazon: $24.99

The best board games for the whole family

1) Headbanz

The holidays are the perfect time to re-enact everyone’s favorite scene from Office. It’s easy to play too. All you do is ask other players questions that will eventually lead you to find out who you are, like “Am I a celebrity?” »

Price: $11.52 (usually $15.99)

2) Ticket to Ride

Take your whole family on a cross-country adventure! But winning this strategy game isn’t as easy as building your track. There are a few other rules that are considered for points (like who built the longest track) before a winner is announced.

Price: $38.88

3) Taboo

There is nothing taboo in that! This family board game is the ultimate guessing game, except all “obvious” clues are banned.

Price: $12.99

4) Tokaido

This cleverly crafted strategy game will take you on a journey through the East Sea Road in Japan. Using the Tokaido app in addition to its board game, players meet detailed characters, taste delicious local cuisines, collect items, and more in this strategy game.

Price: $64.99

5) Catania

Settle down with friends, family, food and beer if you plan on playing, because signing up to Catan means you’re in it for the long haul.

Strategically trade items with your opponents as you try to settle and build on the board. The only resources you have are wood, ore, grain and brick. So you really have to use your noggin to monopolize the board.

Price: $29.99

6) Explosive kittens

This family card game is truly outrageous. It’s basically the card game version of Russian Roulette, or so the developers claim.

Players draw cards until they draw an exploding kitten, killing them and eliminating them from the game (unless they have a Defuse card that saves them – in this turn, anyway).

And if you’re looking for an 18+ option, you should check out the Exploding Kittens: NSFW deck.

Price: $19.99

7) giant jenga

It plays like the regular version (which you can find here), except this version is five feet tall, so you can play on the floor or on a table for an extra challenge.

Remember that whatever piece you hit, you have to shoot!

If you’re looking for a fresh take on the classic Jenga game, you should check out the brand new Bob’s Burgers editing.

Price: $118.95
